SHREVEPORT, LA- On the 12th of October, 2023, the Shreveport Police Patrol officers were thrust into a real-life drama when they received an urgent 911 call with a unique twist – the call was believed to be coming from a moving vehicle. Dispatchers alerted the officers to an open line, offering a distressing audio glimpse into a troubling situation, where a man and a woman were engaged in a heated argument. The gravity of the situation escalated as the man was allegedly making threats against the woman’s well-being, further compounded by the report that he was armed with a firearm.
With remarkable coordination and swift action, the Shreveport Police Dispatchers guided officers in tracking down the mobile source of the distressing call. The pursuit led them to the 2600 block of Bert Kouns Industrial Loop, where they discovered a scene that bore witness to the unraveling of a domestic dispute. An initial assessment revealed that a male suspect, identified as Tariq Phillips, born on May 21, 2002, was embroiled in an altercation with a female. To add to the gravity of the situation, the altercation unfolded in the presence of two small children, who found themselves unintentional witnesses to a tumultuous event.
Officers moved decisively, seeking to detain Phillips and secure the firearm believed to have been wielded in the assault. Their investigation uncovered a sobering detail – Phillips, due to prior felony convictions, was prohibited from possessing a firearm. This significant revelation led to Phillips’ arrest on a range of charges, including one count of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, three counts of Domestic Abuse Battery with Child Endangerment, one count of Domestic Abuse Aggravated Assault, and three counts of 2nd-degree Kidnapping.
