SHREVEPORT, Louisiana (The Sun) – After several months of extensive deliberation and open discussions on how to safely host Mardi Gras parades in Shreveport, Mayor Tom Arceneaux, and the city’s prominent Krewes have united to announce that the festivities will proceed as originally planned.
Mayor Arceneaux convened a joint press conference with Krewe representatives and tourism officials to unveil the agreed-upon modifications for the upcoming Mardi Gras season.
A potential concern arose as the African American History Parade and the Krewe of Centaur Parade were both scheduled for February 3, 2024, raising apprehensions about the availability of law enforcement resources.
To address these concerns, Visit Shreveport-Bossier, in collaboration with city leaders, has successfully secured additional law enforcement personnel to oversee the parade routes. This dedicated group includes auxiliary law enforcement personnel, police officers, sheriff’s deputies, parole officers, and private security personnel. Their primary objective is to ensure the safe continuation of the Mardi Gras festivities.
Following meetings with various departments, including SPAR, the Shreveport Police and Fire Departments, and the Department of Public Works, the Mayor’s office expressed confidence in the safety measures that have been put in place.
As per the revised schedule, the African American History Parade will commence at 11:00 a.m., followed by the Krewe of Centaur Parade at 2:45 p.m., starting at Clyde Fant Parkway. Both parades will maintain their originally planned dates.
“We are thrilled that the Krewe of Centaur will follow its traditional route on its scheduled date,” expressed Ricky Bridges, Krewe of Centaur Captain.
On the subsequent weekend, the Krewe of Gemini Parade is set to kick off at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2024.
“Gemini always puts on an extraordinary show, providing immense enjoyment for the spectators and our Krewe,” said Patrick Gallagher, Krewe of Gemini Parade Co-Captain.
Mardi Gras Day will culminate this festive season on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.
