SHREVEPORT, Louisiana – The State Fair of Louisiana is back for Fall 2023, and organizers have made the safety and security of attendees and event staff a top priority. With the aim of providing a more secure and enjoyable environment for all fairgoers, a series of new rules and policies have been implemented. The fair, held in Shreveport, Louisiana, promises a fun-filled experience while ensuring everyone’s safety.

Security and Safety Measures

Enhanced Security Presence: To create a safe atmosphere for all, visitors can expect the presence of officers from various security companies and the Shreveport Police Department throughout the duration of the fair.

Security Screening: For the safety of all, all patrons and their belongings will undergo thorough searches and pass through metal detectors upon entry to the State Fair of Louisiana. Additionally, surveillance cameras will be operational 24 hours a day, covering the fairgrounds.

Weapons Policy: The fair strictly prohibits the carrying of weapons, both concealed and open carry, on the fairgrounds. This policy applies to everyone, including Concealed Weapons Permit holders. The only exception is for law enforcement with proper credentials.

Youth/Minor Curfew

The State Fair of Louisiana is proud to be a family-friendly destination, and, as an added safety measure, it has introduced an “AFTER 6 P.M. MINORS POLICY” during the 2023 fair. Starting at 6:00 p.m. daily, all minors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or chaperone who is at least 21 years old. Groups larger than 6 individuals under the age of 18 will require additional chaperones. Accompanying adults are required to present a valid ID upon entry. While inside the fair, the parent, guardian, or chaperone is not required to remain with the minors, but they must stay at the fair. Security personnel will enforce this policy.

Organized and ticketed group outings, such as school, church, corporate, and other pre-scheduled group visits, are exempt from this policy as they already have established chaperone policies in place.

Approved Bags/Carry Items

Fairgoers are allowed to bring bags no larger than 9”x 10”x 12”. Larger bags must be returned to the vehicle. Additionally, the fair permits medically necessary items (after proper inspection), diaper bags accompanied by a baby (after proper inspection), and soft-sided coolers for infants, family, or dietary needs (after proper inspection). All bags are subject to search upon entry, and any bags or carry items that do not meet the approved criteria must be returned to vehicles.

Not Approved/Not Allowed Bags/Carry Items

Certain items are strictly prohibited, including purses, clutch bags, or fanny packs larger than 9”x 10”x 12”, concealed weapons, pets (except service animals approved by the ADA or those leashed on the campgrounds), camera cases, drones, fireworks, laser pointers, and more. This list is not exhaustive, and State Fair officials reserve the right to alter the prohibited items list at any time.

Photo Policy

By entering the fairgrounds, visitors consent to having their photos, videos, and audio recorded for promotional purposes. This includes waiving all rights to royalties and releasing the State Fair of Louisiana from any liability regarding the use of their likenesses in various media.

Code of Conduct

To maintain a respectful and safe environment for all attendees, the State Fair of Louisiana enforces a strict code of conduct. This includes requiring appropriate attire, prohibiting alcoholic beverages (even in parking lots), and not allowing demonstrating, protesting, or gathering in large groups inside the fair. Other rules cover activities or behavior that could endanger or annoy others, such as wearing gang-related clothing, standing on chairs, distributing handbills, and smoking or vaping in restricted areas.

Please note that this code of conduct is not all-inclusive and may be modified at any time by fair management.

With these enhanced security measures in place, the State Fair of Louisiana invites everyone to attend and enjoy the festivities while ensuring a safe and family-friendly experience for all. Come and join the fun at the fair this Fall!
