RINGGOLD, La. – October 30, 2023 — An unsettling discovery in Ringgold has prompted a thorough investigation by the Bienville Parish Sheriff’s Office, as human remains were found in a wooded area at the end of Pine Street on Friday. Sheriff John Ballance has confirmed that authorities are taking the matter very seriously, with the assistance of Ringgold police.
The initial discovery raised a multitude of questions, as alongside the human remains, various items of clothing and personal effects were recovered. Sheriff John Ballance’s office, in cooperation with the Bienville Parish coroner, is now taking measures to identify the remains and establish the cause of death. The remains will be handed over to a forensic pathologist, who will play a pivotal role in shedding light on this mysterious and tragic incident.
Compounding the mystery, authorities are also examining the possibility of a connection to a report of a missing Ringgold man, Donavan Damon Brooks, aged 40, who was last seen around September 26. The concern for Brooks’ well-being grew, prompting his family to file a missing persons report on October 19. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans shorts, and white tennis shoes.
During the initial stages of the investigation into Brooks’ disappearance, it was suggested that he had been bitten by a dog, though the veracity of this claim remained unconfirmed at the time. Chief Freddie Peterson issued a news release, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the facts surrounding the missing man.
