SHREVEPORT, La. – In the early hours of Sunday morning, the Shreveport Police Department (SPD) responded to a routine traffic stop that took an unexpected turn, resulting in an apparent officer-involved shooting.
According to SPD’s Public Information Officer, Angie Willhite, the initial call reported that an officer had been shot, and CPR was being administered. However, subsequent information revealed that it was the officer who had discharged their weapon, not the suspect.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:45 a.m. in the 2700 block of Marquette Street within the 71108 zip code.
Louisiana State Police (LSP) provided additional details, explaining that the officer had approached the individual driving the vehicle during the traffic stop. Subsequently, the individual fled on foot, leading to a pursuit. During the course of the chase, the individual brandished a handgun, resulting in shots being fired.
The individual sustained gunshot wounds and was swiftly transported to a local hospital, where he was tragically pronounced deceased.
