Six people have lost their lives in a red light crash in Houston, Texas, on Saturday morning, according to the Houston Police Department.

The accident occurred around 2 a.m. when an SUV ran a red light and hit another car at the intersection of Pierce and Fannin Street, officials said.

The impact caused both vehicles to spin out of control and crash into nearby buildings and poles.

Four people, including the drivers of both cars, were pronounced dead at the scene. Two others were transported to a local hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries.

The identities of the victims have not been released yet, pending notification of their families.

The police are investigating the cause of the crash and whether alcohol or drugs were involved.
